Stuck!

In the house, that is. It's one thing choosing not to go out but another altogether when the council digs a trench without warning and piles soil in front of your gates in 3 foot mounds, stopping you from leaving! On Saturday a machine carved out two grooves in the centre of the road about 3 feet apart. On Monday the digger took off the top surface between the grooves. Yesterday it started digging a trench about ten feet deep, piling soil either side on the paths. By evening the soil had blocked my drive and I couldn't get the car out ..... Had to send an SOS to John begging for a lift to The President Bar in Javea where he was singing and where I spend my Tuesday evenings. Left the house via the garden gate but had to hike over soil, trench etc. to reach his car. This morning the earth started to move again at about 7.45 and now there's a mound of soil in front of my garden gate as well. Trapped! I had intended going to Denia to get my official SIP card (for the Spanish National Health system) as my temporary one has run out. Also need to top my car with fuel as there is becoming a shortage of fuel here - lorry drivers' strike over soaring fuel costs is beginning to take effect. Update: the trench has now been taken across the top of the cul de sac so no-one can leave - and the workmen are taking their break! Typical!

The weather continues to be bad to foul here. This week it's the Moors and Christians Fiestas. The first event of the week, the open air Moraira Music Festival, had to be called off after three hours due to heavy rain; I'm told some of the equipment began to smoke alarmingly. I understand the Music Festival is being re-scheduled for July, so all is not lost. Lots of tourists come to the town specifically for this fiesta, so the appalling weather is a huge disappointment for them. The 'battle' on the beach takes place on Sunday and a few of us are planning to go down early for a meal before watching the proceedings. I've never seen this fiesta so looking forward to it.

Had loads of social outings since my last blog, however I think I will give the Blue Skies outing this Saturday a miss and stay at home. It will be at Las Brisas for their Summer Ball, and we'll be there again the following week for their Midsummer Barbecue. It was there last Saturday too and for once we had more men than women present! Wow! And some of them could actually dance and look like they meant it! Wow again .....

Off now to find something to do during today's enforced imprisonment, not sure what yet though! Or I may just idle the day away - why not?
